Trying to understand what happened here.
Timeline: March 21 – I get alert credit card # ending in FOO was used for unauthorized purchases. I immediately get a new card issued, ending in BAR March 28 – another unauthorized purchase is made (how???) – no alert, I don’t notice May 4 – a package I didn’t order (from Bespoke Post) shows up on my doorstep. At first I assume it’s a gift, but I contact Bespoke Post and they confirm that someone created an account in my name with a bogus email address, my real physical address, and… get this, the credit card ending in FOO (which was supposedly canceled)
So, someone stole my credit card and used it to ship me a package. Why??? What’s their goal here? This is definitely a scam of some sort, but I don’t understand what they accomplish by sending me mail to alert me to the fact they have my card.
(The package was a “themed subscription box” – aka a box of random-ass crap. A pen, a knife, a notebook, etc. I think they prepaid for 3? Anyways, got it refunded and closed the card, but I’m just confused???)
